About the Village of Shabbona’s Comprehensive Plan
In 2022, the Development Committee of the Shabbona Village Board of Trustees along some community members began reviewing and updating the Village’s Comprehensive Plan After 20 years, the current plan had become outdated and needed a refresh. Working with a Village Planner from Chastain & Associates, the committee spent a number of months discussing and updating plan, during this time a survey was put out on Facebook and the Village website for community input. The 2023 Comprehensive Plan linked above is the result of the committee’s dedication to have a working plan that has executable goals over the next 10 years.
The 2023 Comprehensive Plan is a guide for future decisions in Shabbona that are in line with the community’s ideals which include: Maintaining the safe, quaint, small-town charm of Shabbona; Investing in and celebrating the Downtown; and providing opportunities for economic development, and investing in Parks and Recreational opportunities for all ages and abilities.
In 2003 Shabbona had developed a Comprehensive Plan in conjunction with ten other DeKalb County communities. Each community prepared their own comprehensive plan and each plan contributed to the DeKalb County-wide Plan. The purpose of the Shabbona Plan was to define the future of the community, encouraging growth that improves the quality of life in the Village of Shabbona and helping provide cost-effective public services for our residents. A number of things in the 2003 Comprehensive Plan were achieved within the Village of Shabbona.
